The Rev. James A. Forbes, who was cited in a Baylor University survey as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, will speak at five events here Jan. 3-5.

Central Union Church will host the appearances of the senior minister of Riverside Church in New York City, which have the theme "Leading Our Congregation into the New Millennium."

Forbes will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 on "The Recruitment of Human Race Activists," and at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 on "The Anointing of the Spirit and the Mission of the Church." Both lectures in the Women's Building will be preceded by a light supper in the parish hall.

He will preach at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service Jan. 3 and will lead the adult education hour at 9:45 a.m.

Those appearances are open to the public.

He will also lead a preaching seminar for all Hawaii pastors from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 4 at the church. Monday is the deadline to register. The $15 fee will include lunch.
