Lunch wagon
brings thanks

Mug shot A year ago Dorian Miller lost her property management job and her Mercedes. Her mom, Ruth Motley, was recovering from a stroke, and they were in dire financial straits when Dorian saw a for sale ad for a 1983 Ford lunch wagon. "I had never eaten at a lunch wagon," said Dorian. But being an outgoing person, she decided go into the lunch wagon business. The deal closed Thanksgiving Day and she and mom have been thankful and happy for the past year. Dorian, who usually wears a tank top, shorts and slippers on her rounds, loves her customers. They include refuse workers and fishermen she has met in Kakaako. It's not unusual for guys in a garbage truck to shout greetings to her as they drive by. Dorian's other morning spots include Queen's Hospital and the parking lot across from the News Building on Kapiolani. Without a car, Dorian, who has also sold flowers in Waikiki restaurants, bought a Harley Davidson. Bikers yell "Biker Girl" greetings when she's on her motorcycle ...

Lindsey joins 'Superman'

ACTRESS Elizabeth Lindsey and Dean "Superman" Cain completed filming a "Fantasy Island" episode in which Elizabeth plays a detective and Dean a prosecuting attorney. After filming late one night, Elizabeth and series star Malcolm McDowell were hungry and wound up at Like Like Drive Inn at midnight. Elizabeth and movie critic Roger Ebert presented awards at the Royal Hawaiian for Hawaii's film festival. Afterward, there was a slumber party in her room at the Royal with eight beauties, including Brook Lee and "Entertainment Tonight" Producer Alicia Ulrich. They gave Ebert a call and Roger, that lucky dog, came by to talk story ...

WHEN Robert Wagner and Jill St. John were here last month doing "Love Letters" at the Hawaii Theatre, Wagner expressed his love for the theater. He saw it during restoration and donated money toward the effort. "I thought it was so great they were going to bring it back," said Wagner, who was totally impressed with the restoration ...

THE Mercedes Championship was a prime topic at the Kapalua Resort media reception at the Halekulani last weekend. The event runs Jan. 7-10 at Kapalua's Plantation course. Some of the world's best golfers are expected. In from Maui at the reception were Kapalua Land Co. V.P. Pete Sanborn and the resort's P.R. chief Linn Nishikawa, Kapalua Ritz-Carlton G.M. PACT gets $25,000

A TOTAL of $25,000 was raised by the Parents and Children Together fund-raiser at Washington Place last weekend. PACT provides entrepreneurial and self-esteem training for teens living at Kuhio Park Terrace. A fashion show by Bally, the main sponsor, was the highlight. Food and beverages were donated. Myron "Pinky" Thompson gave the blessing. He and wife, Laura, were among other PACT sponsors. Vicky Cayetano welcomed guests in French, as the Bally show was the last French Festival event ...
