Students from 28 local high schools will compete in athletic, academic and school spirit events Friday in Super Club '98, sponsored by Hawaii Youth for Christ. Schools to compete in
Super Club '98More than 1,000 participants are expected in the annual competition from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Aiea Gym.
Tuese Ah-kiong, Golden Gloves superheavyweight champion for the United States and a Hawaii Youth for Christ staff member, will be master of ceremonies.
A concert, a lecture and a relay race circling Oahu will be presented next month in the name of world peace by Hindu meditation master Sri Chinmoy. Hindu master here for
peace eventsChinmoy, who has made several previous appearances in Hawaii, will speak on "Achieving World Peace" at noon Dec. 7 at the University of Hawaii Campus Center Ballroom. The free lecture will be presented by International Student Services.
He will perform his own compositions on Indian string instruments at a free Peace Concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse.
The Oahu relay race on Dec. 8 is a continuation of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, which he began in 1987. Students will carry a "peace torch."
Students of Chinmoy will present free "Learn to Meditate" classes at the Church of the Crossroads. They will be at 9:30 a.m. next Saturday and at 7 p.m. Dec. 8, 9 and 10.
The Indian author and composer has spiritual centers in several locations around the world, and conducts peace meditations at the United Nations twice a week.
Aquarian Foundation, 2440 Kuhio Ave.: "The Release of Taboo in Modern Society," a taped lecture by Master Immanuel, will be presented at the 11 a.m. service tomorrow.
