Water board awards
contracts for 5 jobs

More than $1.5 million will be
spent to replace mains and build a
drainage system for a well

Work is under way on five Board of Water Supply contracts worth more than $1.5 million to replace water mains and build a drainage system for a well.

"Four projects involve replacing pipelines that are vulnerable to breaks with new and more dependable lines and related equipment," said Manager and Chief Engineer Clifford Jamile.

"This will improve overall water service and fire protection capabilities to customers coming off that main."

It also will minimize disruptions of service and traffic flow caused by breaks, he said.

The projects are:

bullet Kakaako: KORL Construction Inc. has a $240,000 contract to install a 12-inch main along Ahui Street from Ala Moana Boulevard to Olomehani Street.

Completion is expected by late April 1999.

bullet Manoa Valley: RMY Construction Inc. under a $371,684 contract is installing an 8-inch water line along Alani Drive from Nanihale Place to Woodlawn Terrace Place, with completion expected by early February 2000.

bullet Kamehameha Heights: Thurston-Pacific Inc. under a $256,000 contract is installing 12- and 8-inch mains along Houghtailing Street from Naio to Hillcrest streets, and along Kealia Drive from Hillcrest to Makanani Street, with completion expected by late March 1999.

bullet Ewa Beach: D&C Construction Inc. was awarded a $258,208 contract to install an 8-inch main along Hailipo Street from Onelua Street to Pohakupuna Road, and along Aikanaka Road from Hailipo to Oama Street.

Completion is expected by late November 1999.

bullet Punaluu: Highway Construction Co. has been given a $422,781 contract to install 18- and 12-inch drain lines and related equipment for Punaluu Wells II at 53-500 Haleaha Road, with completion expected in early November 1999.
