Hawaiian buys jet for L.A.-Maui service
Hawaiian Airlines Inc. has added a long-range DC-10 widebody jet to its fleet as a first step toward launching its Los Angeles-Maui-Kona service in March. The Douglas DC-10-30 has a longer range than the 10 DC-10s already in Hawaiian's fleet. A second DC-10-30 is expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, also for the new service. Hawaiian plans to fly Los Angeles-Maui daily starting March 12 and take the same aircraft to Kona three times a week.
Aloha adopting ticketless travel
Interisland passengers on Aloha Airlines and its sister company Island Air won't need tickets or coupons by the end of March. The interisland airline said it will introduce ticketless travel during the first quarter. Passengers who have made reservations and paid by credit card will only need to show a picture identification at the airport to be handed a boarding pass. Called e-tickets, the electronic ticketing system is widely used by the nation's major airlines.
