Banking on First Hawaiian's
human resources

First Hawaiian Bank has chosen Iris Y. Matsumoto to work in the bank's human resources division as it takes on an expanded role with the institution's merger with BankWest Corp. The number of employees has grown from 3,100 to 5,000, she said.

"With the BankWest merger we have employees in the western United States, Guam and Saipan," Matsumoto said.

She is in charge of compensation and benefits. Human resources will be coordinated with a subsidiary office in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Matsumoto has 18 years of experience in human resources, and most recently was vice president at Maui Land and Pineapple Co. Inc. She also served in human resources at C. Brewer & Co., Hawaiian Airlines Inc., and Liberty House. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management, both state and national chapters, and a director of the Maui United Way.
