A breakthrough season
By Al Chase
for Wahine soccer
Star-BulletinTo switch from a program that lost more often than it won, the Hawaii Wahine soccer team needed to develop the knack of denting the opposing net more often.
The 1998 team did that by increasing its goal production (32) by 50 percent over 1997 and almost doubling its assist output (31) in compiling an 11-7 record. The number of victories equaled the total registered the previous two seasons.
The Wahine set 10 individual and 10 team records. And four individual and two team marks were tied.
Senior striker Tricia Nishikawa set seven records and tied junior midfielder Wendy Miyashiro for another.
Sophomore striker Dawn Dasher and sophomore midfielder Megan Lytle also made the record book, and senior goalkeeper Amanda Paterson set a record for winning percentage (.667) and extended three of her career marks.
Also, four of the top five single-match attendance records were set this season.
