Turns out, the wiring in our new house was screwed up and all the major appliances were on the same circuit, or line, or something, I never really understood.

Bottom line: I picked that day to run the washer, dryer, dishwasher and oven at the same time. When I turned on the disposal -- overload. Even the refrigerator went out.

Had to carve up the bird and cook it in the microwave. You know that turkeys don't brown in the microwave?

Anyway, I was feeling real sorry for myself, until I realized the root problem was I had a brand-new house and many major appliances. It was a count-your-blessings moment.
