Three diabetes specialists will speak at an interactive seminar from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Tapa Ballroom. Conquer diabetes
The free event, "Conquering Diabetes: New Strategies in Preventing Vascular Complications," is sponsored by the Joslin Center for Diabetes at Straub Clinic & Hospital.
Speakers will be Drs. Leonard J. Kryston, medical director of Straub's Joslin Center; Richard S. Beaser, assistant clinical professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School; and Jaime A. Davidson, clinical associate professor of internal medicine, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
Audience members will have hand-held electronic keypads so they can give and receive feedback about diabetes self-management during the presentations.

Hawaii residents who are American citizens, over 65 and lack insurance coverage or resources for medical eye care may seek help from the National Eye Care Project. Eye care available
Dr. George F. Nardin, with the Hawaii Ophthalmological Society and a volunteer for the project, said he and most other Hawaii ophthalmologists provide eye care for disadvantaged seniors.
The program is sponsored by the Foundation of American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation Inc.
Qualified seniors who call 1-800-222-EYES (3937) will be referred to a volunteer ophthalmologist who will provide an eye exam and follow-up care.
Participating ophthalmologists will accept Medicare and private health insurance for their services as full payment. Fees for the examination and treatment are waived for seniors without ability to pay.
Eyeglasses, prescriptions, hospital services and fees of other medical professionals are not covered.
