Spike preview for
UH men’s team

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team opens its preseason Monday with Block Party III, a fund-raiser for the athletic department scholarship fund.

The intrasquad scrimmage begins at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. General admission tickets are $5; there is no reserved seating.

The players will be available for pictures and autographs following the match.

Hawaii opens its preseason schedule Thanksgiving week with four matches on four islands against Brigham Young. The Rainbows and Cougars play on Nov. 25 at Klum Gym, on Nov. 26 at Afook-Chinen Civic in Hilo, on Nov. 27 at Seabury Hall on Maui and on Nov. 28 at Kapaa High gym on Kauai.

Hawaii begins its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season on Jan. 13 at home against UC San Diego. The 5th Outrigger Hotels Invitational is scheduled for Jan. 20-22, featuring UCLA, Lewis and Penn State.

WAHINE HOST GOLF TOURNEY: Hawaii and 17 other college women's golf teams will compete in the Princeville Fall Classic Monday and Tuesday at the Princeville Golf Club on Kauai.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament is part of the Rolex Collegiate Golf Tour. The women will play 27 holes each day.

Miami took the team title last year and Brigham Young's Susanne Gillemo was the individual champion. Visiting teams are nationally 14th-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 20 Oregon State, No. 21 Texas A&M, No. 25 Washington, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Long Beach State, Nebraska, Nevada, Northern Arizona, Ohio State, San Diego State, San Francisco, Tulane and Washington State.
