Now you don't have to read the book to bridge the space between Mars and Venus. Making a game of the
great gender divideJohn Gray's best-selling book about the differences between the sexes is now a game, "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" by Mattel.
Men and women race from their respective planets toward Earth by attempting to answer multiple-choice questions the way they think their counterparts will. The questions are randomly selected from seven categories: Communication, Gender Benders, Island Fantasies, Family Affairs, Scoring Points, In the Flesh and The Dating Circuit.
The game could spark serious conversation, especially between new couples, with questions like: "I can tell the most about a man by how he spends his a) weekends, b) holidays or c) paychecks" or "I'd hesitate marrying a woman who was a) promiscuous, b) career-minded or c) not into having kids."
In response to the question "It's most romantic to get proposed to a) during the holidays, b) on your birthday or c) any day" the women unanimously chose c. One man confessed to proposing to his wife on Cinco de Mayo, because it's obscure enough to fall into the any-day category, yet easy to remember.
However, many of the questions have an obvious "correct" answer like: "If I really want to impress a woman, I take her to a) an expensive restaurant, b) a game or c) my place."
The most important part of this game is the sidetracking and the conversation along the way, not the winning, at least from this woman's perspective.
Otherwise, it's fairly easy to sabotage the game the same way you sabotage a relationship -- with a simple lack of honesty. Without honesty, the game and the relationship could be over in about 15 minutes.
The games sells for $34.99 at Ala Moana and Kamehameha Kay-Bee toy stores. Other toy stores are expecting shipments soon.
