A freight truck flipped over an H-1 freeway median this morning, critically injuring one man and snarling rush-hour traffic for more than four hours.

The accident happened at 5:10 a.m. directly under the Kamehameha Highway overpass.

It closed all Ewa-bound lanes near the Arizona Memorial exit. Two town-bound lanes were also closed, causing a backup of morning commuters.

The 62-year-old truck driver was taken to Queen's Hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to guarded.

Police said an Ewa-bound car apparently cut off the Dole Co. truck, causing it to swerve into the concrete median. The impact sent the truck's engine, hood and other parts onto the town-

bound lanes. The truck, hauling a Matson Navigation Co. container, flipped onto its side. The container flew off the truck bed, landing about 100 feet away.

All lanes reopened at 9:30 a.m.
