UH gives Wahine volleyball coach contract extension

University of Hawaii women's volleyball coach Dave Shoji yesterday received a three-year extension on his current two-year contract from the school's Board of Regents.

But Wahine basketball coach Vince Goo's attorney remanied in negotiations with the athletic department.

Shoji, who has led the Wahine to four national championships, said Friday he had not heard the news officially.

He said he didn't demand a five-year pact but was happy with the regents' decision. The extension was recommended by UH athletic director Hugh Yoshida.

His contract will run until Jan. 14, 2003.

Shoji, who receives $78,000 a year, led the Wahine to a 25-8 record last season.
