Hawaii's General Motors dealers, already struggling in a poor economy, are trying to sell the cars they have and aren't yet worried about supply like some of their mainland counterparts.

"We probably have a 90-day supply on the ground now, and at this point we don't expect a problem," said Gary Marxen, new-car sales manager at JN Group, which sells GM models including Chevrolet cars and trucks.

Larry Valdez, chief operating officer of the Tony Group, said sales in Hawaii are down because of the recession. "On the mainland, with their booming economy, they (dealers) probably will get hurt," said Valdez, whose companies include Pacific Oldsmobile-GMC-Volkswagen in Pearl City. He said he has plenty of GM models.
