BEST OF WEST BASEBALL: The sixth annual Best of the West Baseball Tournament, featuring three Hawaii teams and five from the mainland, will be played Monday through Friday, June 22-27, at Aloha Stadium.
West Oahu, East Honolulu and Leeward are the island teams. Phoenix and Tucson return for the sixth consecutive year. A third Arizona team, Scottsdale, and Santa Cruz, Calif., also have played in the tournament before. This year's newcomer will be the Oakland, Calif., Smoke.
There will be four games each day, starting at 10 a.m., except for Thursday, which is an open date.
Monday's opening matchups are Tucson-Scottsdale at 10 a.m., East Honolulu-Santa Cruz at 1 p.m., West Oahu-Phoenix at 4 and Oakland-Leeward at 7.
HIGH SCHOOL HOOP FEST IN HILO: More than 200 top high school basketball players from 45 states will compete on 24 teams in the HoopSmart USA Summer Basketball Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo July 16-21.
There will be seven games each at three sites -- Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium and two UH-Hilo gymnasiums -- beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day. There will be no admission until the July 21 championship games.
BILLIARDS BLAST: The Aloha Open 9-Ball Tournament, with a total purse of $10,000, will be played Saturday at Hawaiian Brian's Billiards.
Entry fee is $60 for the tournament, with a player limit of 128 and payoffs to 32nd place.

WAHINE SURFING: China Uemura's second annual Wahine Surfing Classic is scheduled for June 27-28 at Queen's Beach in Waikiki. The event is dedicated to the memory of Rell Sunn.
Proceeds from the meet benefit the Sex Abuse Treatment Center of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
There are nine longboard and five shortboard divisions for girls and women of all ages. The event is limited to the first 200 entries.
The entry fee is $25 if paid by June 20. Each additional event is $10. The on-site entry fee is $50. For information call 845-4244.
