Bail violation lands second Schweitzer in jail
HILO -- Police arrested Dana Ireland murder suspect Shawn Schweitzer, 22, at his home near Pahoa yesterday, acting on a bench warrant issued because of Schweitzer's alleged violation of his bail conditions. The arrest came at 8:05 a.m., just hours after Kauai police arrested Shawn's brother, Albert Ian Schweitzer, 26, at Anahola, Kauai, shortly after midnight.
The brothers were indicted last year for the murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault of Big Island visitor Ireland, 23, who was left to die in a remote location following the Christmas Eve, 1991, attack. A third suspect, Frank Pauline Jr., is in prison for other offenses while awaiting trial in the Ireland case.
Both brothers were free on $70,000 bail. However, court documents said both began a series of bail violations in January.
The brothers remain in custody pending a court hearing on revoking their bail.
