Miss Universe logo Want to message Mauritius, confer with Canada, go online with Uganda? Beginning today, you can e-mail any of the 82 Miss Universe Pageant contestants.

At a dinner last night at Washington Place hosted by Gov. and Vicky Cayetano, Uniden officials gave special e-mail capable phones to each contestant.

They can send and receive e-mail from their Hilton Hawaiian Village rooms -- without having to use a computer.

The Axis Internet e-Mail Telephone features a built-in modem, processor, keypad and flip-up screen that will let contestants send and receive electronic mail through a regular telephone line.

GTE Hawaiian Tel has configured the phones with special e-mail addresses. All e-mail must be sent to the Hawaii Host Committee's e-mail address, muhawaii@gte.net. The message will be forwarded through e-mail to each contestant.
