'Horse Whisperer' plays Big Isle

The Big Island previews Robert Redford's new movie, "The Horse Whisperer," 24 hours before anywhere else in America. The romantic drama, based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Evans, will be shown free at 7 p.m. May 14 at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

The showing is part of the five-week BANKOH Old Hawai'i on Horseback festival, "1998 Year of the Paniolo," in Waimea.

About 400 free tickets are being distributed, two to a person, by KLUA-FM radio Saturday, from 1-2 p.m. at Waimea Center, and 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Parker Ranch Center.

Ticket holders must arrive by 6:30 p.m. for the movie. Empty seats will be given away at 6:45 p.m.
