Seeking industry solidarity

Marlene DeCosta wants the Institute of Real Estate Management and affiliate real estate groups to join forces to work at the legislature for Hawaii's economic revitalization.

"I have a personal goal to have IREM act as an industry catalyst," DeCosta said.

She wants to work with leaders of the Building Owners and Managers Association, International Council of Shopping Centers, and National Association of Industrial and Office Parks.

DeCosta joined Chaney Brooks & Co. in 1987 and and currently is executive vice president and chief operating officer of its commercial division. She also managed income-producing properties for McDonald's of Hawaii Development Co.

DeCosta earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Seattle University and a master's degree in business administration from Chaminade University.
