Volleyball match pits
UH women against Huskers

The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team will take on Nebraska tomorrow in a 1 p.m. exhibition match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Prices are $5 general admission and $3 for students. Tickets are available at the box office tomorrow before the match.

An experimental scoring format will be used in the best-of-three match, with a 14-minute running clock and rally scoring.

A successful kill made from behind the 10-foot line is worth two points.

The Cornhuskers finished last season 27-7 after making their fourth straight NCAA final four appearance.

Returning for her senior season at Nebraska is all-American setter Fiona Nepo, a University High School product.

HONORABLE MENTION FOR COCKETT: University of Hawaii senior Nani Cockett was accorded honorable mention honors on the Kodak All-American women's basketball team named yesterday.

The first team: Tamika Catchings, Tennessee; Allison Feaster, Harvard; Kristin Folkl, Stanford; Chamique Holdsclaw, Tennessee; Chastity Melvin, North Carolina State; Murriel Page, Florida; Ticha Penicheiro, Old Dominion; Tracy Reid, North Carolina; Nykesha Sales, Connecticut, and Alicia Thompson, Texas Tech.

TULSA WINS; UH WOMEN 16TH: Nationally third-ranked Tulsa won the team championship and Ashley Winn beat out Louisiana State teammate Katy Wilkinson for the individual title in yesterday's final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Kaneohe Klipper course.

The host University of Hawaii team wound up 16th in the field of 20. Desiree Ting was the low UH scorer with a 54-hole total of 239. She shot a 78 yesterday.

Tulsa beat second-ranked Arizona by three strokes in the team competition. LSU was third.

Winn closed with a 2-over-par 74 yesterday and Wilkinson had a 73 to finish six strokes behind her teammate.

SAILING WAHINE 13TH: The University of Hawaii women's sailing team placed 13th in the 15-team St. Mary's Women's Intersectional regatta last weekend at St. Mary's City, Md.

Charleston won with a total score of 164 for 15 races.

UH's Molly O'Bryan and Natalia Tangalin totaled 156 points in Division A, winning one race. Laura Rehg and Sandy Herrmann had 136 points for the Wahine in Division B.

STATE BOYS' GYMNASTICS MEET: The 1998 Boys' State Gymnastics Championships for levels 6 and 7 will be held Sunday, starting at 2 p.m., at Aloha Gymnastics World, 1314 Moonui Street, in Honolulu.

HALE KOA TENNIS: Entries are being accepted for the Hale Koa Spring Tennis Tournament, to be played April 17-19 on the hotel courts.

There will be singles and doubles play for men and women. The tournament is open to players 16 years and older.

Entry fees are $15 for singles and $25 for doubles teams. The deadline is April 10. Entry forms are available at the Hale Koa.
