Ihilani manager goes for
Hawaiian feel

Michael L. Kueffer, the new manager of the Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina, is hoping to increase the Hawaiian image of the 387-room hotel.

Kueffer said he is making changes to enhance the Hawaiian activities program and add more Hawaiian music at the Oahu resort.

Nikko Hotels International, a Japan Airlines Inc. subsidiary, took over management of the resort this year.

"Nikko has more contacts on the mainland, in New York, San Francisco and Beverly Hills," Kueffer said. "We hope to get more business through their national sales efforts and central reservation (system)."

Kueffer most recently was deputy managing director at the Grand Wailea Resort, Hotel & Spa in Wailea, Maui.

He worked for the Hotel Nikko Chicago from late 1990 through August 1994 before moving to Maui.
