TOKYO - A day after both yokozunas and one ozeki lost their opening bouts, all top-ranked wrestlers won in the 15-day New Year Grand Sumo Tournament last night. Akebono and Musashimaru back in winning form
Ozeki Takanonami, who could gain promotion to sumo's highest rank of yokozuna by winning this tournament, remained undefeated at 2-0 along with ozeki Musashimaru of Hawaii.
Yokozunas Takanohana and Hawaii's Akebono were at 1-1, along with ozeki Wakanohana.
Akebono, or Chad Rowan, sent out Kotonishiki (0-2) with hand thrusts.
Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani, charged Kaio (1-1) with hand thrusts and bulldozed him out.
