showcased

Classical dance styles of India are the focus of performances and workshops tomorrow through Sunday.

The Center for South Asian Studies of the University of Hawaii School of Hawaiian, Asian and Pacific Studies are presenting the events.

Anjani's Kathak Dance of India performs Saturday, 8 p.m., at Diamond Head Theatre, while Sandra Chatterjee and Vidhya Sridhar dance Sunday, 4 p.m., at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Theatre. Tickets are $10 to $15, available at the door or in advance at the academy box office.

Free workshops will take place tomorrow at the university. Call 956-2677 and 956-6051.

Birthday party for a king

Na Pualei O Likolehua invites the public to celebrate King David Kalakaua's birthday, Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m., at Hawaii Theatre.

Among performers for the celebration are kumu hula Robert Cazimero and the Gentlemen of Halau Na Kamalei, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Willie K., Keali'i Reichel and Kekuhi Kanahele and an all-star Hawaiian band featuring Theresa Bright, Jerry Santos, Dennis Pavao and Palani Vaughn.

Prints for sale

Honolulu Printmakers will have an art sale Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St.

Etching, lithographs, screen prints and woodcuts will be sold at this benefit for classes, visiting artist programs and traveling exhibits.
