Switch batteries on Sunday

Sunday is "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" day, when Americans are urged to change the batteries in their home smoke alarms. This safety measured is tied to the switch from daylight-saving to standard time Sunday.

The campaign is now in its 10th year, the result of the collaboration between the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer batteries. According to the IAFC, a residential fire occurs about every 74 seconds in the United States, and the peak time for home fire fatalities is between 2 and 5 a.m. So change your batteries and check your smoke alarm.

'Stomp' set to return

"Stomp," the off-Broadway and London hit, returns to the Hawaii Theatre Dec. 16-Jan. 4, according to Columbia Artists Management, the production's managers based in New York City.

Ticket sales and prices have not yet been announced by the theater and officials there declined to confirm or deny scheduling details.

"Stomp," 90 minutes of nonstop action with an eight-member dancer-percussion group -- six men and two women -- made its Hawaii debut last December at the Bethel Street venue.

The performers in "Stomp" utter no words except some pre-literate grunts and toss each other occasional chip-on-the-shoulder glances. They bash and scrape and massage away at everything within reach, including themselves, kitchen sinks, newspapers and BIC lighters.

Sarah Richards, Hawaii Theatre president, referred questions to "Stomp" promoter Ron Andrews of Eagle Eye Entertainment in Toronto, who brought "Stomp" here last year and is presenting "Tap Dogs" at the theater. Andrews was not immediately available for comment.
