Desperate times call for desperate measures. So Gov. Ben Cayetano, apparently foreseeing the University of Hawaii's disastrous football season, took matters into his own hands. da-da-da-da-DA-da,
Hawaiis Bows!"Book 'em Ben," as he might now be known, wrote CBS Entertainment in July, asking permission to have the "Hawaii Five-0" theme put to lyrics to be performed at UH athletic events.
"Gratis permission" -- no payment required -- was granted by CBS.
The lyrics, titled "Hawaii's Rainbows," were written by self-described "rhyme-writer" Art Freedman, who says the words "celebrate Hawaii's pride in the courage of the ... student athletes, the Warriors and Na Wahine."
The song will be introduced Saturday night by the University of Hawaii Marching Band during pre-game events at the UH-Fresno State football game.
"Hawaii's Rainbows" is dedicated to former UH football player Shannon Smith, who drowned earlier this year.
Here's how it goes:
Hawaii's Rainbows,
They are the best.
Hawaii's Rainbows,
Above the rest.
True symbols of the pride of our State
The Warriors and Wahine are great
They're our heroes
Hawaii's 'Bows!Hawaii's Rainbows,
Light up the West.
Hawaii's Rainbows,
They meet the test.
When fighting for Hawaii's great name,
They show their courage all through the game.
They're our heroes.
Hawaii's 'Bows!
