THURSDAY

Performing Arts Class: Children 8-13 who are serious about performing arts can explore dance, drama and music with Lisa Kimsey Tuttle, 4-6:30 p.m. at Calvary By the Sea Lutheran Church. Classes meet every Thursday. Free. Call Tuttle at 946-0357.



FRIDAY

"Imagine": Last day to register for Honolulu Theatre for Youth's drama class. Students explore story-building, role play, music and art with their voices and bodies. One-hour classes Saturdays Oct. 11-Nov. 22 at Kilauea and Pearl City district parks, 1:25 p.m. for grades K-1; 2:30 p.m. for grades 2-3; and 3:35 p.m. for grades 4-6. Cost: $75. Gymboree: Play program and storytime for pre-school aged children, 11 a.m., Borders, Waikele. Gymbo the puppet clown will also be there. Free. Call 676-6699.



SATURDAY

"Expression session": Art project for children 5-12, 1:30 p.m., Contemporary Museum. Cost: $5. Reservations required. Call 526-1322.

"Junior Zookeeper": Children 5-11 can see what it's like to be a zoo keeper. Classes meet 1-4 p.m. every Saturday in October at Honolulu Zoo. Cost: $75 for all four classes. Call 971-7195.

Animal plays: Kids 5-11 can show their talents in a creative drama class. Participants play theater games and develop skits or plays. Classes every Saturday in October at Honolulu Zoo. Children 5-7 meet 8:30-10:30 a.m., ages 8-11 meet 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost: $50 for four classes. Call 971-7195.

Family First Sunday: Families and friends celebrate the German pastime of walking, 10 a.m., Kalihi-Palama Public Library. Listen to stories, make a feathered cap and go on a volksmarch around the library. Registration required. Call 832-3466.



SUNDAY

Animal Art: Draw, paint and sculpt the zoo's residents. Classes 1-4 p.m. every Sunday in October at Honolulu Zoo. Cost: $80 for four classes, includes materials. Call 971-7195.



CONTINUING

Preschool storytime: Children 3-5 can listen to stories, 10:30-11 a.m. Thursdays through Dec. 18, Kaimuki Public Library. Call 733-8422.

And 10-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday in October. German folktales are the focus for the month. Register at 832-3466.

"Exploring My 5 Senses": Children 3-5 can enjoy Salt Lake/Moanalua Public Library's preschool storyhour, 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9-Nov. 6. Free. Call 831-6831.

Storytime at Borders, Waikele: Experienced readers share picture books, 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Saturday. Call 676-6699.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride through Ewa 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Arrive 30 minutes before departure time Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461 for reservations.
