Australians Sweep Oceanman

Ann Balara, left, and Reen Corbet finish the paddleboard
portion of the Oceanman Hawaii Race in the shorebreak
off Waikiki Beach yesterday. Simone Cotter of Australia
won the women's event, which consisted of an 800-meter
swim, and 1,000-meter paddle and a 1,240-meter run on the
beach. Her time was 34 minutes, 48 seconds. Australians
Stacey Gartrell and Linda Halfweeg finished second and
third, respectively. In the men's race, which consisted of
a 1,000-meter swim, a 1,700-meter paddle, a 2,600-meter
kayak and a 2,600-meter run, Australian Darren Mercer
topped the field with a time of 48:13. Australians Brett
Tyack and Trevor Hendy finished second and third.
