The bands are Verve Pipe, Match Box 20, Smash Mouth, Cowboy Mouth, Naked, Buck o Nine and Hawaii's own Sunburn.

Mountain bikers display No Fear

Grab your helmets and bikes because Hawaii's largest amateur mountain bike race is about to hit the slopes of Waimea Valley and Adventure Park.

With cash prizes totaling $2,500, the first ever No Fear Mauka Enduro mountain bike race on Aug. 31, is sure to be a smash, which is something the bikers in the race hope to avoid.

Faced with two types of competition, the bikers will need all their skill plus some luck to maneuver the two courses. Enduro is a mass-start race that runs along a course of forest roads, single-track trails, descents and climbs. Downhill is a timed trial of sustained decent, which demonstrates bike handling at high speeds.

Sanctioned by the National Off Road Bicycling Association, race points will be carried over into national competition.

The event is open to public spectators free of charge and will last from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Call 737-7025 for information.

North Shore fair a joint effort

The Waimea Arboretum Foundation once again is grafted to the North Shore Outdoor Circle to host an annual Plant and Craft Sale, running 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 31 at the entrance to Waimea Valley and Adventure Park.

Items for sale include heliconia, ginger, sugar cane, taro and other native plants, as well as pickled Maui onions and bottled mango chutney.

There will also be craft and gardening demonstrations, and events for children.

Free. Information: 638-8511.
