Cordray lost
for 2-6 weeks

Kelli Cordray, a member of the University of Hawaii women's volleyball team, was diagnosed yesterday with pneumomediastinum.

Women's athletic trainer Melody Toth described the illness as "a small hole in one of the lungs which allows air to leak into the chest cavity."

Cordray complained of chest problems yesterday morning and was sent to team physician Dr. Andrew Nichols for examination. A chest X-ray and electrocardiogram revealed the problem.

According to Toth, over exhaustion caused the illness.

Cordray will miss anywhere from two to six weeks and is required to get extensive rest.

The 5-foot-10 junior is expected to compete at the left-side hitter position this season.
