Win a surfboard
with Angel’s help
One lucky kid 14 or younger will win a Local Motion surfboard in the "Drop into Summer Reading" contest that runs through this month.
The contest brings together Local Motion, H30 Hawaiian Heavywater Magazine, KCCN and Honolulu Bookshops to help Bess Press promote the company's three books about Angel Kaihiwa, written by Helen M. Swanson.
To enter, kids should stop by any Honolulu Book Shop and answer the entry form's three questions about the Angel books. A drawing for the winner will be held Sept. 4 on KINE radio
Angel lives on the Big Island with his tutu. In the first book, "Angel of Rainbow Gulch," we meet 11-year-old Angel, a kid who gets in trouble at school, until his adventure in Rainbow Gulch turns him into a hero. In "The Secret of Petroglyph Cave," Angel gets a paper route to try to earn enough money to buy a surfboard, then discovers a secret at Petroglyph Cave. In the most recent book, "Angel and Tutu," Angel is still trying to get that surfboard, and still getting into trouble, but all that is forgotten when Tutu is hospitalized.

Shark overnighter: Jerry Crow, Chris Lowe and Brad Wetherbee lead a night of shark exploration, 7 p.m.-8 a.m., Waikiki Aquarium. Participants get to construct and test their own shark models.
