








Dee Wisneski, a four-year letter winner while playing for the University of Hawaii women's softball team, has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Wahine. Wisneski named assistant
softball coach at HawaiiShe has served on head coach Bob Coolen's staff the past two seasons.
"Dee knows the system well and has experience both playing and coaching at the collegiate level," Coolen said. "Her main responsibilities are recruiting, coaching the infield and academics."
Wisneski, a product of Waimea High School on Kauai, graduated from UH with a degree in psychology in 1996.
GARCIA WINS $4,000: At Huntington Beach, Calif., Sunny Garcia of Honolulu won the individual competition in the 18th annual Katin Team Surfing Challenge and took home $4,000 in prize money.
Shea Lopez of Florida was second and California's Tom Curren third.
NIGHT DOUBLES QUALIFIERS: Six more doubles teams won qualifying matches in the Kailua Men's Night Doubles tennis tournament at the Kailua Racquet Club last night.
Advancing were: Chanon Alcon and Myles Uyema, Mark Beede and Nito Hausia, Mark Kobayashi and Robert Lau, Riki Fujitani and Chris Sadayasu, Gary Sakuma and Aaron Yamato and Matt Chang and Rick Fried.
HAWAII ROUTS ALASKA: At Portland, Ore., Lyza Halas had three runs batted in to help Hawaii to a 14-1 victory over Alaska in the Little League Girls Big League (16-18) Division I softball tournament yesterday.
Nikki Suehiro pitched a six-hitter in a game called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
Hawaii, the only undefeated team, has a bye today, then plays the Alaska-Oregon winner tomorrow needing only one win to advance.
MAUI PREVAILS: Lance Fujii hit two home runs and Kurt Susuki had a three-run blast to lead Maui to a 9-2 win over Hawaii Kai in the championship game of the PONY state baseball tournament for the Pony Division (13-14 years) at Pililaau Park yesterday.
Maui advances to regional play in Fullerton, Calif.
ALVARO, KIM STAR: At Boise, Idaho, Keala Alvaro and Mike Kim each banged out three hits to lead Aiea to a 14-3 victory over Idaho in the Little League Seniors (14-15 years) Division I tournament yesterday.
George Takase pitched a five-hitter and his teammates gave him a 7-2 lead after two innings.
Aiea plays Oregon today in an elimination game.
HAWAII STAYS ALIVE: At Salem, Ore., Chad Kamakura was 3-for-4 with a two-run, first-inning double that got Hawaii going on the way to a 10-5 win over Oregon in the Little League Big League (16-18 years) Division I tournament yesterday.
Glenn Salcur homered in the third and Kurt Suma had a two-run single to highlight the six-run fourth.
Hawaii meets Alaska today in an elimination game.
LATE RALLY DOWNS AIEA: At Missoula, Mont., West Boise (Idaho) scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Aiea, 4-2, in the Little League Juniors (13 years) Division I baseball tournament yesterday.
Shawn Tanabe and Nathan Kawamura knocked in the Aiea runs.
