Darryl Freeman, 22, a skater from Kaimuki, walks by the stored
skate park ramps at the motor vehicle reconstruction inspection
station yesterday. The city motor vehicle control section, at the
same location as the skate park, has not moved. It remains
operating weekdays under the H-1 overpass sandwiched between
Harding and Kapahulu avenues. On weekends, the parking lot turns
into the Kapahulu Skate Park, which opened Sunday, operated
jointly by the city and the Central YMCA. Besides administering
inspections fo reconstructed vehicles and taxis, the two portable
buildings are also home to the safety inspection and operations
dealing with abandoned and derelict vehicles. The site is open
to skaters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
