First lady goes
all out at benefit

SHE may be Hawaii's first lady but Vicky Cayetano was cleaning tables and working harder than some of the paid help at Ciao Mein's sixth anniversary dinner last weekend, a benefit for the Ronald McDonald House. Other celebs pitching in were Council members Donna Kim, Mufi Hannemann and Jon Yoshimura, and Tina Shelton, Jodi Leong, Kathy Muneno, Tiny Tadani, Augie Rey, Sandra Sagisi, Dave Carlin, Cathy Foy and Kari Steele, who worked two shifts ... Cathy sang Tuesday at Washington Place for a Honolulu Theatre for Youth reception. Randy Hongo accompanied her ...

THE GUV and Vicky attended a birthday party for Estelle Green, given by her husband, attorney Michael Green, at Nicholas Nickolas last Saturday. Estelle, a former Ms. Hawaii Philippines, was Estralita Ortez when she danced in Elvis' "Blue Hawaii," James Michener's "Hawaii" and "Gidget Goes Hawaiian." Los Amigos, formerly of the Third Floor, entertained. Among the 40 guests were Jack and Cha Thompson and Jeff Apaka ... Thank goodness Cayetano cleared the way for the Rolling Stones date at Aloha Stadium, keeping the state from getting another black eye ...

THE Waialae Women's Golf Invitational was won by Christel Tomori, low gross, and Faith Inoshita, low net. Chairperson Penny Silva Wells and the Punahou Alumni Glee Club led by Donald Yap sang at the awards luncheon Tuesday. Anuhea Brown played piano. Malia Ane and Hattie Eldredge Phillips danced hula, as did ex-Pun football star Stew Brissette. Miki Bowers sang "Hawaiian Cowboy." Woody Fern emceed. Tomori and Inoshita were crowned with haku leis made by Amelia Bailey ... Former Hawaiian Open and Kapalua champ Jim Furyk will be eating great steaks. He's been signed to rep Ruth's Chris Steak House ... For laughs, don't miss Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in "Out to Sea." It is a funny movie! ...

Giving Mahana a boost

OWANA Salazar's pals are turning out to raise funds to give her daughter, Miss Hawaii Teen USA Mahana Walters, a fitting send-off to the national Miss Teen USA event. The fund-raiser is Wednesday, 5 to 9 p.m. at Restaurant Row's Ocean Club. Puamana, John Cruz and Ernie Cruz Jr., Matthew Swalinkavich, Melinda Caroll, Jerry Santos, B.B. Shawn and Owana will entertain. Emcees are Brickwood Galuteria, Kimo Kahoano, Keaumiki Akui, Frank Shaner and Randy Hudnell ...

KELVIN RO showed chef Jeremiah Tower around town recently. Tower owns Stars in S.F. and will e be guest chef at Ro's Kahala Moon third anniversary celebration next month. Besides a trip to the Moon, Ro and Tower dined at Glen Chu's Indigo and Alan Wong's. We may be seeing Stars here in the downtown area before long ... Alfred Vollenweider will have a menu of Swiss specialities at Alfred's Friday to mark Swiss National Day ... Natalie Cole sings with the Honolulu Symphony at the Shell Friday, 7:30. Leading isle eateries are catering gourmet meals for the dinner tables ...

TV CHEF and author Martin "Yan-Can-Cook" Yan will wok out at the Hawaii Prince Aug. 6. Yan will give a cooking demonstration at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner featuring his specialties, $65 ... Following Jazz Festival performances at Hawaii Theatre Thursday, Friday and next Saturday, there will be jam sessions at Andrew's in Executive Centre ...
