Contests

International Library of Famous Poets is sponsoring a free poetry competition. Grand prize is $1,000. Poems must be 21 lines or less and sent to: Free Poetry Competition, 421 N. Rodeo Drive, Suite 15-544, Beverly Hills, Calif., 90210. Only one poem per person. Deadline: July 30. Poems will not be returned. Winners will be notified by the end of October.

Minute Maid Co. is looking for romance novels for their "Minute Maid Sensational Romance Writer Contest." In 125 words or less, writers must portray two fictional characters and romantically describe how their senses react when eating an orange. Grand prize is a 7-day/6-night roundtrip for two to Paris, France. Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum is accepting entries for their "Awards of Poetic Excellence" contest. Poets may enter only one poem, of 20 lines or less. Thirty-five cash prizes are offered. International Imitation Raymond Chandler Writing Competition for writers who can imitate or parody Chandler's writing style. Contestants should make use of typical Chandler locales, interests, and subject matter as appropriate. Three writers will receive $500, $300 or $200 prize. Entries must be typewritten, double spaced on 8-1/2-by-11 inch plain, white paper; approximately 500 words in length. They must mention La Jolla, Calif., be unpublished; must be titled; and must have the author's name, address and phone number on the back of the entry. One entry per person. All entries become the property of the Friends of the La Jolla Library. No entries will be returned. Judging Committee decision is final.
