"Free the Trees": Help the Hawaii Nature Center free forest trees from the vines that strangle them, 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 12, Hawaii Nature Center. Cost: $7. Reservations required. Call 955-0100.

Upper arboretum hike: Intermediate hike with Ray Baker, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 12, Lyon Arboretum parking lot. Wear normal hiking attire and bring bug repellent, rain gear, water, snack and lunch. Cost: $9. Limited enrollment. Call 988-7378.

Wailupe hike: Advanced hike with Ron Fenstemacher, 9 a.m. July 12. Meet at the end of Hao Street wearing good shoes and long pants. Bring lunch, water, rain and sun gear, bug repellent and a camera or binoculars. Approximately 7 hours. Cost: $9. Limited enrollment. Call 988-7378.

Aloha State Radio Control Club: Annual Radio Control Open House and Fun Fly, 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m. July 12 and 7 a.m.-4 p.m. July 13, Kawainui Marsh Airfiled, off of Kapaa Quarry Road. Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club: Six-mile, intermediate hike to Kahana Valley, 8 a.m. July 13. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring lunch and water, and wear good shoes and appropriate clothing. Cost: $2. Call 836-4940.
