Taking over the terminals at BHP

Dan Shimomura's main focus is safety and environmental concerns as manager of terminal operations for BHP Hawaii.

He is responsible for petroleum terminals and trucking operations across the state, and marine fueling operations in Honolulu Harbor. He also manages relationships with Tosco, Shell Oil Company and Chevron USA.

He replaces Mike Latham, who was promoted to regional coordinator for oil spill prevention and response.

Shimomura has worked 10 years for BHP Gas Co., most recently as manager of support services. He also had a civilian job as chief of the technical section for naval engineering during 17 years with the U.S. Coast Guard and also worked four years at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
