Kim Gennaula, Bob Fimiani
SHE'S movin' on up -- that would be Kim Gennaula, who began on KGMB as a weathercaster, and who still serves in that capacity, but has taken on additional duties as well. She was mentioned here months ago for the fine job she did writing and narrating a couple of specials about isle canoe sailing and cultural exchange, and now Channel 9 has rewarded her. As of this week, Gennaula will be co-anchoring the 5 p.m. newscasts with Jerry Drelling, while continuing with her weather casts at 6 and 10 p.m. This is all in addition to a gardening show she hosts that airs on Saturdays. Sounds like one busy young woman ... Outlook sunny
for GennaulaTHEN there's isle actor Bob Fimiani. After appearing in local theater and on TV, Fimiani moved on to L.A. After a self-imposed five-year hiatus he returned to TV on "The Young and the Restless" and played the title role in "A Dreamer Examines His Pillow" at L.A.'s highly-regarded Company of Angels Theater. Sheree North directed Fimiani in that show. This month he'll reprise his role as Henry Higgins, which he did at Huntington Beach last year, this time at the 2,000 seat Moonlight Amphitheater in Vista, Calif. ...
ARRIVING Friday for a 10-day vacation at the Outrigger Reef is Edean Hustace Iselin, granddaughter of Victoria Ward. She's president of a new (and successful) import and retail sales company called Ohana Hui Inc. ... The Schiller Group has been contacted by the London company that airs a TV series called "Commercial Breakdown," about using that controversial TV spot Schiller did for Hawaii Opera Theatre -- the one they called "Bidet Fountain." It'll be shown this fall on the BBC, where the show regularly attracts more than 11 million viewers. At the very least, a lot of people in Great Britain will hear about HOT ...
THE University of Hawaii put out a series of brochures revolving around UH's 90th anniversary, one of them following the careers of "Ninety Illustrious Alumni." Alas, I failed to make the cut! Ah well, maybe on their 100th anniversary, if I live that long. First alum mentioned was Bankoh's Larry Johnson -- "Show me the money!" -- and also included was Jason Olive, a UH volleyball player who's accomplishment at the time of the brochure's release was that he's "a professional model." They can now add "actor," should the brochure be revised. Olive debuts as a new character on the soap opera "Guiding Light" on July 8 ... Missing the cut
THE governor's chief of staff, Charlie Toguchi, was overheard telling colleagues that the reason Gov. Ben Cayetano kept his recent wedding such a deep secret was because if he didn't, Mayor Jeremy Harris would try to take credit for it ... Good thing President Bill Clinton doesn't have to run for re-election again because he might not get Lisa Josephsohn's vote. The local public relations exec was visiting pals in the Big Apple and arrived on the very day President Clinton was in town to take in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." It wasn't so funny to Josephsohn, who had to schlep her luggage by foot since Manhattan streets were closed off on Clinton's behalf ... Gerald Arpino, artistic director for the Joffrey Ballet, flew in to see the group perform at the Blaisdell Concert Hall tonight through Sunday ...
BEFORE leaving for my vacation, I ran into old jogging partner Stuart Ho at the Cafe Vienna downtown. He was on his way to London and had been booked into a hotel he wasn't familiar with, and was curious about. He asked if I'd ever heard of L'hotel. Not only had I heard about it, but had stayed there -- pretty remarkable considering it only has 12 rooms. I described the locale perfectly, reported Ho on his return, and he even measured distances to confirm what I'd told him. Harrods was exactly 71 steps from the front of the hotel, and the Knightsbridge underground 100 steps away. Sounds like he ought to be a guidebook editor. Happy to be of service ...
