Honolulu Rose Society: President Clayton Yoshikawa will speak about growing roses in Hawaii and show a sample of his collection, 6 p.m.tomorrow, Aston Waikiki Beachside Hotel. Part of afternoon tea as it was served in Hawaii during the 1800s. Cost: $15. Reservations required. Call 623-1303.

Lyon Arboretum, 3860 Manoa Road, Honolulu, 988-7378: Jerry Shelmidine shows how to grow culinary herbs in backyards and containers, 9:30-11:45 a.m. July 5, downstairs classroom. Cost: $17.50. Call to register.

Urban Garden Center, 453-6050: "Fireworks In Your Landscape" demonstration with Ed Mersino, 9:30 a.m. July 5. Gardening series classes 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, 962 Second St. Topics include: sweet potato, July 16; eggplant, July 23; and flowering heliconia and ginger, July 30. Costs $5.
