"I want to bring information and go after the untapped market (of companies managing their own parking)," Sappal said.
He takes the newly created marketing job at APCOA as the company prepares to bid for management at Honolulu Airport.
APCOA, which stands for Airport Parking Co. of America, is based in Cleveland. The company manages more than 3,000 parking facilities in the nation, and more than 60 locations in Hawaii.
Sappal joined APCOA in 1990 and worked in downtown Honolulu, while also operating Cosmopolitan Swim Gear Co., a company he started in 1987. Sappal also was a stockbroker for one year in Orange, Calif.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Chapman College.
