Kenny Neal

Here come those blues again

When 3-year-old Kenny Neal was crying at his daddy's knee, family friend and blues legend Slim Harpo stuck a harmonica in his mouth. Neal hasn't cried since. He mastered the "harp," moved on to guitar and became a budding blues legend himself.

In the early '80s, Neal moved to Canada and fronted the Downchild Blues Band, then struck out on his own. In 1991, he was named Most Outstanding New Talent On and Off Broadway for his work in the revue "Mule Bone." He has also toured with B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt and Muddy Waters.

Neal is performing several concerts in Hawaii. This weekend they include:

8:30 p.m. tomorrow, Shooters in Hilo, $15. Call (808) 969-7069.

9 p.m. Saturday at the Hawaiian Hut, $15. Call 941-5205.

9 p.m. Sunday at Pizza Bob's in Haleiwa, $15. Call 637-5095.

Neal will also appear at 4 p.m. Sunday at Borders Books & Music Waikele.
