climate of fear on campusKamehameha Schools faculty members, frustrated by the inaction of Bishop Estate trustees to address what some describe as a "climate of fear" on campus, were scheduled to meet today with officials from the National Labor Relations Board. The meeting is strictly an informational session, campus sources said.
Faculty members held a similar session recently with the American Civil Liberties Union.
A faculty source, who requested anonymity, says "control over what people can say and do" is one of the general issues.
"There's no forum. You can't debate an issue," the source said.
The faculty are sticking to an in-house approach to dealing with the trustees but have been frustrated so far, the source said.
The trustees have asked the state courts to appoint former Circuit Judge Patrick Yim as an independent fact-finder.
A hearing on Yim's appointment is scheduled June 13.
