When you call the police department, is a trace put on every call, even those that have an ID block? If that's true, the public should know about it. ID block doesn't work
on calls made to 911The only numbers automatically recorded are 911 calls, said Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Jean Motoyama. Even if you do not speak and even with an ID block, your number will be recorded, she said.
That's so police can respond if there is an emergency and the caller is unable to talk. But calls to any other HPD office or number are not automatically recorded, Motoyama said.
Many nights, there are selfish and inconsiderate people hanging around Kapaolono Park in Kaimuki after the park is closed at 10 p.m. They make a lot of noise partying or playing basketball, sometimes until 2 a.m. I am tired of calling police every time. How can we go about requesting police to patrol the area regularly? Or can the city parks department chain up the lot to limit access? Try working through the Kaimuki Neighborhood Board.
You can bring up the problem at one of its monthly meetings, held at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month at Kaimuki Recreational Center on 11th Avenue.
"There are parks that close and those that don't," said outgoing board Chairman Henry Iwasa, noting that Kaimuki Park closes at 10 p.m. "If the park is not officially closed, police can ask people to be quiet but cannot tell them to leave."
The board may vote to ask the city to close the park at night. The request has no legal clout but "board support always has more weight," Iwasa said.
He said there are neighborhood patrols in Kaimuki that might help, although they're limited now to weekends.
