Outrigger doing movie tie-in

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is hoping to cash in on the advance buzz for the summer's expected blockbuster "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."

The locally based hotel chain says it is being featured in $1 million worth of advertising for the movie, which was filmed partly on Kauai and is the sequel to Steven Spielberg's 1993 hit "Jurassic Park." Outrigger is using the advertising to promote its Kiahuna Plantation Resort condominium and its other properties.

Outrigger linked its advertising with that of MovieFone, a national movie ticket booking operation.

Bryan Klum, Outrigger corporate director of marketing and planning, said his company is giving away 10 Hawaii vacations, including seven-night stays at the Kiahuna Plantation.

In return, up to and including the May 23 screening date, the Outrigger name and a plug for the Kauai property are appearing in MovieFone print advertisements in major newspapers such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Dallas Morning Star.

Callers to the MovieFone booking lines hear an audio spot with lines from the movie and information about Outrigger and Kauai. If they want to enter the sweepstakes for the chance to win one of 10 "lost" tickets good for a Hawaii stay, they'll get additional information.

Anyone buying tickets to the Universal Pictures movie through MovieFone gets a chance to win, Klum said.

"Universal Pictures' "Lost World: Jurassic Park" is bound to be this summer's choice for family entertainment and we're hoping Lost World moviegoers will make Hawaii their summer vacation choice," Klum said.

A "Daily Variety" article May 14 said that in its first week since being added to the MovieFone list, the movie had attracted 100,000 inquiries and more than 10,000 tickets had been sold.
