Sanders Trading Co., a Kakaako supplier of specialty flooring materials such as teak and Brazilian Koa, has been acquired by a bigger wholesale firm based in California, Higgins Lumber and Golden State Flooring. The sale price was not disclosed. Sanders Trading bought
by California companySanders was started 20 years ago as a family business by Earl Sanders, his wife Joanne and their two sons, Richard and Bill. Bill Sanders, who runs the business with his wife Barbara, said it is time for him to retire.
The warehouse at 1211 Kona St. will remain as will its seven employees, Sanders said. However, many items will be shipped direct from the mainland to island customers, eliminating the need for a bigger warehouse here, he said.
Contract negotiations that began in early 1996 between United Airlines and the company's 21,000 flight attendants have at last resulted in progress and given the parties optimism an agreement may be near. Flight attendants, United

The two sides agreed to take a three-week recess and then to resume talks in Honolulu, said Jane Goodman, director of communications for the Washington-based Association of Flight Attendants.
Neither management nor labor would elaborate on the talks, but both said their tenor is positive.
