Yamamoto brothers team up
on a no-hitter for Iolani

Brothers Ryan and Erik Yamamoto combined to pitch a six-inning no-hitter for Iolani in a 12-2 Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball victory over Mid-Pacific yesterday at Ala Wai Field.

The game was halted after six innings by the eight-run rule.

Ryan Yamamoto, a senior left-hander, walked three Owls and committed a balk in the first inning that led to MPI's runs.

Erik Yamamoto, a sophomore right-hander, relieved his brother with one out in the third inning and completed the no-no. He walked two, struck out two and hit a batter.

Douglas Jackson had three RBIs for the Raiders and Danny Kimura, Keoni DeRenne and Gregg Omori each had two.

Iolani remained atop the ILH standings with a 10-0 record. Mid-Pacific dropped to 6-4.

Fletcher, Acosta
lead Waianae over Leilehua

Shauntay Fletcher led Waianae with 13 points and Ashelle Acosta added 10 as Waianae edged Leilehua, 39-37, in the only Oahu Interscholastic Association girls' basketball action last night.

The Seariders (7-1) managed to outscore the Mules (0-7) by one point in the first and third quarters and that was the difference in the tightly-contested Western Division game.

Jamie Harlor paced Leilehua with 10 points.

Iolani 54, Maryknoll 42: The Red Raiders rallied with a 20-point second quarter to beat visiting Maryknoll.

Karen Fitisemanu had a game-high 18 points for the Raiders and Erin Stovall added 13.

Maryknoll countered with three players in double figures -- Michele Gabriel with 11 points and Dana Fukuda and Kim Washington each with 10.
