The Honolulu Marathon Association is donating groups of general admission tickets for Saturday's San Diego Padres-St. Louis Cardinals baseball doubleheader at Aloha Stadium to community-based childrens' associations.

Youth organizations are asked to call 524-0174 with their requests for the free tickets, no strings attached.

More than 500 tickets are earmarked for the program from a total of 2,500 being distributed by the marathon association to mark the race's 25th anniversary year.

Oceanic Cable's Keiki Club and My TV are among other recipients, along with the Boys & Girls Club of Honolulu, which will receive 100 of the tickets from the Marathon.

"We want to say 'Thanks Hawaii' with this small gesture of appreciation," said marathon president Dr. Jim Barahal. "We want to help bring as many kids to the ballpark as possible."

PADRES' APPEARANCES: The San Diego Padres will work out at Aloha Stadium from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, with the stadium gates opening at 2:30 p.m.

Admission is free to the public with the donation of a canned good for the Hawaii Food Bank. An autograph session will be held as part of the workout from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Also, several San Diego players will make appearances at Kapiolani Hospital, Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hickam Air Force Base and Kaneohe Marine Base Friday morning.

GAME DAY TIMES: The Aloha Stadium parking lot and box office will open at noon on Saturday, with the turnstile gates opening at 1 p.m.

The Padres' batting practice will be at 1:30 p.m. and the Cardinals' batting practice at 2:40 p.m. The Padres' infield practice is set for 3:20 p.m. and the Cardinals' infield practice is at 3:30 p.m. Pregame ceremonies are set for 3:45 p.m. and the start of the doubleheader for 4:05 p.m.

Sunday, the parking lot and box office will open at 10 a.m., with the turnstiles opening at 11 a.m.

The Padres' batting practice is set for 11:30 a.m. and the Cardinals' batting practice for 12:40 p.m. The Padres' infield practice is set for 1:20 p.m. and the Cardinals' infield practice for 1:30 p.m. Pregame ceremonies are scheduled for 1:40 p.m., with the single game starting at 2:05 p.m.

TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE: Tickets for both days are still available at the Aloha Stadium box office, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.

For additional information, call 486-9300.

NATIONAL TV: Sunday's single game will be nationally televised on ESPN, with Joe Morgan and Jon Miller calling the play-by-play.

The game will not be blacked out in Hawaii, according to an Oceanic Cable TV spokesperson.

Miller joked with Morgan about the Hawaii trip during last night's telecast of the Mets-Dodgers game: "I guess somebody has to do it. Too bad we can't get there tomorrow."

MEET THE MASCOT: The Padres' new mascot, the "Swinging Friar", will make an appearance at the Kahala Mall Center Stage tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to take pictures and meet the mascot.
