
Peters, whose Broadway credits include leads in "Sunday in the Park with George," "Into the Woods" and "The Goodbye Girl," makes her Honolulu symphony debut Nov. 14-15 with Stuart Chafetz conducting. Brubeck performs "Take Five -- The Very Best of Dave Brubeck: Brubeck and Sons" Jan. 16-17.
A major coup for the reorganized symphony will be its debut in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl, one of the nation's premier performance sites, on August 31. The concert will be conducted by Maestro Sam Wong and Aaron Mahi of the Royal Hawaiian Band. Also appearing with the Symphony will be Keali'i Reichel, slack-key guitarists George Kuo, and singers Dennis Kamakahi and Robi Kahakalau.
The only other time the symphony has appeared on the mainland was a series of concerts in Utah and Nevada in 1979.
The Halekulani Classical MasterWorks series at Blaisdell Concert Hall will be expanded from 10 concerts to 12 pairs of Sunday and Tuesday concerts. The MasterWorks series will include three new series entitled "Great Composers," "Legends of Asia" and "A Beethoven Festival." Call 538-8863 for information.
Masterworks prices are $132 to $444 for the 12-concert series, depending on seat location. Subscribers save more than 25 percent over single-ticket holders.
The official season opens Oct. 19 and 21 with "Polovtsian Dances: East-West Voices." Robert Page will guest conduct the concert, which features soprano Carolann Page, the Chorus of the Toho College of Music in Japan, and the Oahu Choral Society. Program selections are "Roman Carnival" by Berlioz, "Gloria" by Poulenc, "Salut Printemps" by Debussy and "Prince Igor: Polovtsian Dances" by Borodin.

Nov. 2 and 4 -- "Tchaikovsky: Pathetique." Guest conductor Enrique Arturo Deimecke is joined by violinist Eugene Fodor for the Sibelius "Violin Concert" and "Chaconne" by Chavez.
Nov. 23 and 25 -- "Wong Conducts Scheherazade!" Wong returns to the Podium for works by Ravel and Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as "China Dreams" by Bright Sheng. With mezzo soprano Ruxandra Donose.
Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 -- "Kawakubo Plays Tchaikovsky." The 16-year-old violinist Tamaki Kawakubo makes her Hawaii debut playing a 1707 Cathedral Stradivarius.
Jan. 4 and 6 -- "Rachmaninoff Third Piano Concerto." Wong conducts the work popularized by the Academy Award-nominated movie "Shine." With soloist Gustavo Romero.
Jan. 11 and 13 -- "A Gershwin Jubilee!" features pianist Lorin Hollander playing Gershwin's "Piano Concerto in F Major." The Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers join the orchestra for excerpts from "Porgy and Bess."
March 8 and 10 -- "Vivaldi: The Four Seasons" with Stuart Chafetz conducting and violinist Yoon Kwon appearing as soloist.
April 5 and 7 -- "Daphnis et Chloe and Afternoon of a Fawn" has Wong returning to the podium for pieces by Ravel and Debussy. Korean-born 13-year-old cellist Han Na Chang, plays the Saint-Saens "Violincello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33."
April 26 and 28 -- "All Beethoven Program" marks the return of Utah Symphony music director Joseph Silverstein, who will guest conduct and appear as a violin soloist. Program: "Symphony No. 6 (Pastorale)," "Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61."
May 3 and 5 -- "Beethoven and Strauss," with debut of a permanent concertmaster. Featured will be Beethoven's "Romance" and "Symphony No. 3 in F-flat Major (Eroica)," and Strauss' "Metamorphosen."
May 10 and 12 -- Wong will be joined by soloist John O'Conor in Beethoven's "Emperor" piano concerto.
May 31 and June 2 -- "Carmina Burana -- A Sonic Spectacular," featuring the Oahu Choral Society. Wong will also conduct the symphony's principal clarinet
ist, Scott Anderson, in Mozart's "Clarinet Concert in A Major, K. 622." The United Airlines Pops Series also returns as follows, with each Friday and Saturday concert presented at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $72 to $222 for the six programs:

Oct. 24 and 25 -- "Encore," has Jimmy Borges singing the music of Frank Sinatra. Matt Catingub conducts, with Shari Lynn and jazz saxophonist Gabe Baltazar.
Nov. 14 and 15 -- Bernadette Peters makes her debut with Stuart Chafetz guest conducting.
Dec. 12 and 13 -- "Christmas Spectacular," has the Brothers Cazimero and dancer Leinaala Heine Kalama with Aaron Mahi as guest conductor.
Jan. 16 and 17 -- "Take 5 -- The Very Best of Dave Brubeck -- Brubeck and Sons" features the living jazz legend Brubeck in classic selections with his quartet and the Honolulu Symphony.
April 24 and 25 -- "Dancin' with Doc: From Ballet to the Big Bands." No season is complete without the former "Tonight Show" bandleader and trumpet virtuoso.
