BYU-Hawaii ranked No. 1

The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the first NAIA poll of the season, while the Seasiders' men team are No. 10 and Hawaii Pacific men 19th.

The BYUH women (25-0) feature four singles players rated among the NAIA's Top 20 -- Karin Ptaszek (4), Teresa Stromberg (5), Paiao Short (9) and Yu-Hsien Liu (20). Two of the doubles teams are also ranked -- Anneli Ornstedt and Stromberg No. 3 and Ptaszek-Short tied for eighth.

The Seasiders' men team have three singles players in the top 25: Anirban Barush (10), Wei-Yu Su (12) and Toshi Matsui (25). Su and Matsui are No. 9 in the doubles rankings while Matt Griffin and Todd Hooper are 25th.

HPU's Eric Sandblom is 35th in singles and, with Johan Sandblom, comprise the 17th-ranked doubles team.

IOLANI MOVES UP: Iolani moved up four spots in this week's Baseball America Top 25 high school poll.

The Raiders jumped to the 14th spot in the poll released yesterday.

FOODLAND TICKET OFFER: Oahu Foodland and Sack N Save stores are providing an opportunity for Hawaii residents to obtain free tickets to watch the San Diego Padres play the St. Louis Cardinals April 20 at Aloha Stadium.

Customers who shop with their Maika'i frequent shopper card and spend $30 in one visit at any Oahu Foodland or Sack N Save store and include the purchase of three Pepsi 12-packs and two bags of Doritos and Ruffles Chips will receive a free general admission ticket while the supply lasts.

Maika'i members also can save 25 percent by purchasing general admission tickets for the April 20 game at any Oahu Foodland or Sack N Save customer service counter while the supply lasts. General admission tickets are $6 for Maika'i members, $8 for non-Maika'i members.
