Julius Caesar

Adaptation of William Shakespeare's play of political power and honor in ancient Rome starring Marlon Brando, James Mason, John Gielgud, Louis Calhern, Greer Garson and Deborah Kerr.

A story about early 20th century plantation life in Hawaii. The story portrays the racism and fear the immigrants experienced and survived, leading to one of the world's most successful multi-ethnic societies. Theresa Bill, women's historian and public history consultant, will lead a discussion following the film.

Nuclear Monster Movies of Cold War Cinema (Star rating unavailable)

Bandit Queen (Star rating unavailable)

Based on the real-life story of Phoolan Devi, India's member of parliament and Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Devi escaped from a marriage at the age of 11 only to be repeatedly assaulted and driven from her village by the upper caste men. After fleeing to the ravines, Devi started a bandit band and was the third woman in 3,000 years of Indian history to lead a band. She allegedly returned to her village and executed 22 of the men who had assaulted her, making her a national heroine. Presented in celebration of Women's History Month by the University of Hawaii-Manoa, Center for South Asian Studies and the Ambedkar Journal.

Adam Baran Honolulu Gay and Lesbian Film Festival: Accepting any length films/videos that have been produced and/or directed and/or written by or about lesbians and gay men. Preferably be a U.S., Hawaii or World Premier. Documentaries, experimentals, features, animations, rough cuts and works-in-progress accepted, however, they must be submitted in the required preview format. Deadline: May 30.
