FRIDAY

Keolu Fun Fair: Box car rides and games, 4:30 to 9 p.m. Also food, a bake sale, country store and entertainment. Proceeds go to programs for children. Call Paul Iha at 262-5626.

Night reef walk: Explore the shore with Waikiki Aquarium staff, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Costs $8 adults, $7 children. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.

Wild Thing: Visit the wild thing from the book "Where the Wild Things Are" 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday at Barnes and Noble.

SATURDAY

Weather Wizardry: Children 7 and older encounter wild weather wonders, and learn why we have the weather we do, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $7. Call 955-0100.

Hawaii State Library: Children's Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays through July.

SUNDAY

Young Women's Career Series: Learn what it takes to become an astronomer in this month's featured career for girls ages 7-14, 4 p.m., Video Room at Borders, Waikele. Karen Meech from the University of Hawaii's Astronomy Department will speak.

CONTINUING

"Na Mea Makamae" on display: Explore the "Treasures of Hawaii," rare objects as much as five centuries old, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Bishop Museum through May 4. Learn the stories behind fossils, tiny fish, Kamehameha's feather cloak and rocks from the underwater volcano Loihi. Admission is $14.95 general, $11.95 youths, seniors and military. Call 847-3511.

Tropical plant nature walk: 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Free. Call 233-7323 for reservations.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride through Ewa 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with the Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Arrive a half hour before departure time. Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461 for reservations.

LOOKING AHEAD

Gymboree Storytime: Preschoolers can visit Gymbo the puppet clown and share a story and songs, 11 a.m. March 14 at Borders, Waikele.

Waikiki Aquarium overnighter: Aquarium director Bruce Carlson leads families and adults behind the scenes to the coral gardens and Hunters on the Reef tank, March 14 and 15. Evening snack and continental breakfast provided. Costs $16 adults, $12 children. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.

Borders, Waikele: Help prepare dolls for hospitalized children during a storytime and "medical play," 11 a.m. March 15 at Borders, Waikele. Bring a magic marker to color the dolls.

Snooze in the Zoo: Camp out among the animals at the Honolulu Zoo and enjoy folktales, campfire songs and a behind-the-scenes look at nocturnal creatures, 6 p.m. March 15. Snacks and continental breakfast provided. Costs $27 adults, $25 children. Reserve at 971-7195.
